LAIDLAW SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS FROM TWO MAINE TOWNS
VOTE OVERWHELMINGLY TO JOIN TEAMSTERS LOCAL 340

The sun may be setting on summer, but there was no lack in the heat generated by the Teamsters Organizing campaigns or Orland and Calais Maine.

On Thursday, September 20, 2007, sixty-two (62) employees at these two (2) locations voted to become members of Teamsters Local 340 by an overwhelming two–one majority. David W. Laughton, Secretary/Treasurer of Teamsters Joint Council 10 of New England stated, “The hardworking men and women of Laidlaw are charged with transporting our most valued resource, America’s school children, and they deserve to be treated with that level of respect on the job.”

Jim Carson, President of Teamsters Local 340 said, “Local 340 offers a warm welcome to the newest Sisters and Brothers, and we look forward to negotiating a strong contract on their behalf.”

This latest addition to the Teamsters significantly strengthens the ranks of Laidlaw bus drivers nationally. David Laughton said, “Teamsters Joint Council 10 continues the cutting edge of Organizing and making for a better way of life for the unorganized.”
