On
January 16, 2008 as the Teamsters Joint Council 10 Tractor
Trailer played music and the Local 633 strike force, headed
up by Principal Officer David W Laughton, grilled hamburgers
and hot dogs, the mood was truly festive for a group of
First Student Bus Drivers in Nashua New Hampshire looking
to become Teamsters after enduring a three month long blistering
management attack.
When
all was said and done, the vote was an overwhelming three
to one margin of victory. Principal Officer David
W Laughton stated, “This victory sets the pace
for Organizing in 2008. These courageous men and
women withstood some of the most outrageous management
acts one can imagine, and they stayed strong showing
true Teamster pride.”The
newest Local 633 members proudly joined in the celebration,
enjoying the music during an impromptu January cookout. Joint
Council 10 Organizer Roger Travers stated, “This
campaign was a war. From the first meeting to the counting
of the final ballot, management took every opportunity
to put tremendous pressure on these brave women and men,
but the level of unity and determination that this group
showed would not be shut down. I am proud of what
these workers have accomplished.”The
Nashua, New Hampshire First Student Bus Drivers join the
Derry, New Hampshire drivers who voted overwhelming to
join Local 633 just weeks ago, and the Salem, New Hampshire
Bus Drivers who have enjoyed Teamster representation since
1997. “The word is out, and the word is Strong
Teamster representation. We will continue to bring
our message of strength and unity to all unorganized men
and women. It is catching on that when you are covered
by a strong Teamster contract, your family and your fellow
workers are truly uplifted,” said Secretary-Treasurer
David Laughton.
Contract
proposals are currently being scheduled and negotiations
will be underway shortly.
