About
Us:
Boston Mailers Union received its
original Charter from the International Typographical Union on March
17, 1892. Local 1 consisted of 50 members. The I.T.U. closed its
doors due to new advanced technology on December 31, 1986.
Without an International Union for two and one half months, the
Boston Mailers' voted by secret ballot to affiliate with the International
Brotherhood of Teamsters Union. On March 12, 1987, a charter was
issued by the IBT to Boston Mailers Union Local 1.
What We Do:
Local No I represents approximately 300 members and has collective
bargaining agreements with Boston area newspapers. President Dan
Caplette is the full time Executive Officer.
The members, referred to as "Mailers," perform duties pertaining
to the inserting and distribution of the daily newspaper and Sunday
circulation.
