Us:
Teamsters Local 170 received its General Charter from the International
Brotherhood of Teamsters in October of 1933 and has recently been
revised. Local 170 has jurisdiction in Central Massachusetts as
far North as Salisbury; as far South as Eastham; as far East as
Malden and as far West as Warren.
The
purpose of Teamsters Local 170 is to organize the unorganized in
order to establish a better relationship between management and
employees.
Teamsters
Local 170 began with 150 members and has grown and prospered to
over 4,500 active members. The membership consists of a wide range
of occupations which include: transportation, grocery, beer, soft
drink, sand and gravel, concrete, construction, bread, bakery, mechanics,
warehouse, small package delivery, clerical and public sector employees.
In
addition to representing its membership, Teamsters Local 170 has
several volunteer committees that benefit the membership and community
at large. They include the Blood Bank Committee, Scholarship Fund
Committee, Organizing Committee, Parade Committee, Strike Force
& Political Action Committee, School-to-Work Program Committee
and Community Services Committee. The above Committees make for
a very active Local Union.
